Estes Park, CO – A few miles from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Yeah, I know, that’s WAY south of Billings, MT and, no, I didn’t get lost. Since neither Rachel nor I have ever crossed the Colorado Rockies (…flying over in a plane doesn’t count), never mind doing so on a bike, we decided to take a slight detour and do a southern loop. We just got here and the scenery coming in through Roosevelt National Forest was eye popping, and literally every corner we went around (…and there were a LOT of corners!) we were busy looking back & forth trying to take it all in. We stayed off the Interstates today, with one short exception: Leaving Sundance we caught Route 585 over to US-85 South, and stayed on that all the way through WY, until it merged with I-25 just before Cheyenne, WY. We stayed on I-25 for about 50 miles, then caught US-34 West to Estes Park. The picture above is from the parking lot of our motel by our room; but it really doesn’t do the scenic beauty of this area justice.
